Employment Contracts and HR Documents for a Company in Bulgaria
Minimum Wage 2026
The minimum wage in Bulgaria is 477 € gross (redenominated from 933 BGN at the fixed exchange rate when the euro was adopted: 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN). Now that the country is in the eurozone, the minimum wage is set and updated in EUR.
Important: Every employment contract must provide a gross remuneration no lower than the current minimum wage.
Mandatory Elements of an Employment Contract
According to Art. 66 of the Labour Code (Кодекс на труда / КТ), the employment contract must contain:
- Details of the parties (employer and employee)
- Place of work
- Job title and nature of the work
- Date of signing and start date
- Working hours
- Basic and supplementary remuneration
- Paid annual leave
Probation Period
The maximum probation period is 6 months (Art. 70(1) of the Labour Code). For contracts with a duration of up to 1 year — it may not exceed 1 month. During the probation period, the contract can be terminated without notice.
Remote Work
According to Art. 107z et seq. of the Labour Code, remote work (from home, home office) requires a special contract or supplementary agreement covering:
- Workplace (address for remote work)
- Provision of equipment
- Availability and connectivity requirements
- Health and safety conditions at the home workplace
NKPD Codes (National Classification of Professions and Positions)
The National Classification of Professions and Positions (НКПД) defines the 4-digit code for each position. The code is mandatory when filing:
- Notification of a signed employment contract (Form 1) with the NRA
- Reports on insured persons
Example: Programmer = 2512, Accountant = 2411, Manager = 1120
Termination of Employment
The methods of termination include:
- By mutual agreement under Art. 325(1) of the Labour Code — by mutual consent, without notice
- With notice — standard 30 days (up to 3 months for managerial positions)
- Disciplinary dismissal — for gross misconduct
